The Terminology Associated With Window Performance

This refers to windows that have three layers of glass, the middle of which is typically surrounded by an insulating layer of gas such as argon or krypton. They are sometimes referred to as “triple glazed” and provide for much higher energy efficiency than their double-paned counterparts.
This term refers to the ability to resist the transfer of heat or energy. Your home will experience heat loss through conduction (through the glass) and air leakage (through cracks), among other things. If your new windows have a high R-value, this means that they are well insulated.
U-factor is essentially the inverse of R-value. In essence, if your panes have a R-value of 5, the U-factor will be 1/5 or 0.2. Consequently, the lower the U-factor, the better the insulation.
